Benchmarking and Audits

We have specialised in the measurement of Total Cost of Ownership in the New Zealand corporate and public sector, for distributed computing, enterprise applications and telecommunications environments.

Through the numerous studies we have undertaken (encompassing over 35,000 desktops), ENG has developed high quality benchmarks for the sector that can be applied to large organisations operating in this country, and we have undertaken our own research in the New Zealand market in areas such as:

  • Thin client vs. Thick Client deployments.
  • TCO analysis of outsourcing proposals.
  • The impact of broadband services on TCO.
  • The contrast between campus environments and multi-site national organisations.
  • How converged telephony, data and mobile infrastructure compares with circuit-switched environments.
  • Best practice assessment for multi-site environments.
  • Out-tasking of application hosting vs. retaining applications in-house.
  • The TCO impact of the various tool classes.

As an independent organisation, ENG benchmarks and research can be relied upon by enterprises looking to make rational decisions founded on sound economic analysis. International research is of little value for locally based organisations because the economic and industry structure differences between NZ and North America (for instance) render US-based benchmark studies worthless. Similarly, vendor "white papers" and other vendor-derived TCO information is tainted because methodologies are poor and the findings are invariable parochial.
